I have always thought of the regions as 'big'. It just doen't seem
reasonable that it should take 20 days of traveling through 'nowhere'
to get to the next 'someplace'. There are a number of inconsistencies
in this view however. If the region is big, then why can't I work and
entertain as I travel through the country side? If the locales are
suppose to be just the town proper, then why are they so far apart and
who is it that's taking my maintenance money when I'm on the road for a
month (I know, I know it's abstracted).

Yes to all the other questions...
