Alot of rare tradegoods are just common tradegoods but of fine quality.
For instance you can have leather and fine leather, which is just leather
of better quality and/or workmanship. This also brings in magic. You
could have a spell which makes ordinary leather look like fine leather
for a few turns. The store owner has a 50% chance of detecting the fake,
and if he does then he attacks you.

Just a thought.
