I have to say I'm not joining in on the chorus of how smart the guy was
that aura-blasted a garrison _or_ how much of a game cheat it was to do
so.
As an old hand, I can say that that was an old, old tool whose use
didn't cause much of a ripple in G1. (I myself used it to get rid of
the garrison on Mt. Olympus, which the AOO had salted with 500+ dragon
before they dropped. [In G1, when you beat a garrison with combat-rated
beasts, your beastmaster didn't get any of them])
I also seem to recall that there was some change in the amount of aura
needed to kill NPCs; prior to a revision I believe 1 point was enough to
kill a controlled NPC or a garrison.
I had been primitive enough to use an NPC to wipe out garrisons before
moving my army into the space to hide the strength/ids of my forces.
Spotting the holes in that gambit will give you an idea of exactly how
fearsome an opponent I am.
