Briareos looked out at the sea and sighe. Soon, the Pallas Athena would be christened and ready to traverse the broad waves of Olympia. The wanderlust, which had stirred him and his brothers so often in their youth, had returned, but where would it take him this time? He stood outside the small office of the North Atnos Travel Bureau, reading the brochures that the helpgfl attendant had given him. Glancing at the titles, he agonized over the choices available to him: "Visit Peaceful Chardia", "Ski Mount Uldim", "Island Cruise on the Wrath of Zeus", "Take a Long Rest in Areth Pirn". So many choices, but which way to go?

Oleg's Interesting Player List ==============================

Player 854, who made the Interesting Player List last month for murdering player 931, broke his neck after tripping over a rock. Sympathy cards may be sent care of Craig Shergold.

Player 863, Law Netexus, gets Oleg's Interesting Pontification Award. He is located on the island to the north and east of the world, and seems to feel that he owns it, and that the local law says that anyone who gives out any information about the island to outsiders will be killed. Perhaps this is why player 874 recently met his untimely end in Shavnor. In any case, when confronted about this, his reply was:

"Well, Prenola and Rocko do the same thing!"

Somehow, I don't think name-dropping in this fashion is going to work to his advantage. I encourage all interested parties to vacation on the Island of Netexus, or Shavnor Island, as I prefer to call it. I will be publishing a partial map of this Island next month.

-- Oleg

p.s. I wonder when Milinkthos is going to add Lower Resh into his turn checker? I guess this is proof that he doesn't read my Times articles...

The Olympia turn checker!

For 50 years the leader in creative mayhem!

This marvel of the midevil age reads in turn commands, checks syntax, and prints out an english version of the commands for easy checking. No longer will you buy 5 of 6 instead of 6 of 5. It also does reasonability checks (ie. you can't buy Osswid, and you can't terrorize a rug).

Binaries for Next, Vax, Sparc, Decstation and Sun3 machines running UNIX are available from shrimp.cs.washington.edu in pub/olympia. Source code is NOT available, so don't ask.

Comments/questions/bug reports to hauck@cs.washington.edu.

Note: For bug reports, please include the line that triggered the bug, and the output the checker gave.

Wanted: an individual, or group thereof, to reinstate the bounty upon the head of Oleg the Loudmouth.

Roving Reporter's Column ========================

Free Public entertainment! ==========================

While many of the inhabitants of Olympia are feverishly studying entertainment skills and expecting pay from the citizens of this great land for their singing, dancing and acrobatics, there are a couple of groups in the land who are offerring their skills in entertainment free of charge.

Merlinium, Master mage and Guild Master, has offerred great amusement to all the inhabitants of Drassa as they watch his comings and goings, transporting supplies and plague between cities. Now, for our entertainment, he has even brought the plague to that fairest city of the land, Drassa herself ! And the inhabitants, who always enjoy a good chuckle, are rolling around with laughter watching everyone scramble for cover to try to avoid catching the plague. How long will they take to spread it to every corner of the world ?? Probably only another couple of months ! It is certainly totally uncontained now !!

And the other group providing free, open air entertainments, are some of our elightened race of wandering Savages. Even now, in Atnos Forest, the trees and hills echo with the sound of their drumming. As yet, it is unknown whether the drumming actually carries a price or not, but it is rather disconcerting to wake one morning and hear slow drumming coming from all possible directions (and being told so in your turn reports !). Does this presage a new stage in the civilization of our nomadic cousins ? Is the love of music truly able to sooth the savage beast ?? Or does it really imply that life in this area is about to hot up ?

At least the orcs have moved on (temporarily). So far, the region appears to be the home of many orcs, savages, faeries and trolls. What other regions can boast such a profusion of life and excitement ?
