"The evil that is in the world always comes of ignorance, and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence, if they lack understanding. On the whole, men are more good than bad; that, however, isn't the real point. But they are more or less ignorant, and it is this that we call vice or virtue; the most incorrigible vice being that of an ignorance that fancies it knows everything and therefore claims for itself the right to kill. The soul of the murderer is blind; and there can be no true goodness nor true love without the utmost clear-sightedness."

Lords of Revelstone's Irregular Posting

Hey! We're up here in Western Drucartan. Don't send big parties up here without warning. We get nervous. Thanks.

-Lord Variol, for the Lords

-- Lords of Revelstone [ad4]

Because of fear of unrest and a large influx of immigrants to a continent with low resources, visitors to Eastern Drucartan are asked to procure a visa before entering the area. ( We define Eastern Drucartan as the area of Drucartan that is east of the Uldim Pass).

If you want a visa, please send a message to John Sen[m6f], describing the nobles in the party, the size of the party, and the reason for visiting Eastern Drucartan. There is no fee, and requests will only be refused in rare ( i.e. I am bringing 2000 men to kill all nobles ) circumstances.

In days of old, when knights were bold, and Maidens got rather flustered. A fog came down, around the town, to the sounds of slurping custard.

Now Miyuki states, behind the gates, are places quite obscene. But hidden from sight, away from the fight, were acts rather daring.

With chickens and chains, and squashed monkeys brains, the delights are there for the taking. "I don't think much of yours. Shes just one of the w****s! Are you sure she isn't just faking?"

Miyuki's the Queen, as can be seen, by anyone with a dime. Miyuki-chan rules. Please mind my drools. It just gets better with time.

(With apologies to the OOMF!)

Waning Days, Ossicus:

BANDITS CRUSHED BY THE VALOR OF THE LIBERTY CONFEDERACY!

The Liberty Confederacy has captured Selon Erethria [b4b], & Pelia Greywind [c7c] (the "Commander of the Unified Ossican Forces"), units which we believe belong to the Disciples of the Wanderer faction. We came offering peace & friendship & these bandits returned this greeting with threats & violence. Their anti-social actions brought about their own defeat when the timely arrival of valiant Liberty Confederacy allies foiled Pelia Graywind's ill-fated surprise attack.

We do not seek conflict with factions which do not seek conflict with us. But let the untimely ends of Selon Erethria & Pelia Greywind serve as examples to all bandits: as you reep so shall you sow with The Liberty Confederacy.

Let it be hereby known to the Olympian citizenry that the Liberty Confederacy & the Disciples of the Wanderer have negotiated a non-aggression pact. The Disciples of the Wanderer have agreed to leave Ossicus as soon as possible & never return. The opinion of the citizens of Olympia will be the guarantee of this pact.

> The true colors of the Dogmatix and his allies have shown > through.

Our sincerest condolences to the House of Cards for their recent loss. We did contact Bastrestric concerning Typhoon's involvement in the attack on Ergonal and were informed that it was, in fact, Typhoon's idea to try to sneak up on us! We received nothing from anybody to indicate that Typhoon was not a member of Bastrestric's faction and he was certainly a willing participant (see battle report, Times #37.) Say, this almost reminds me of those Jambalaya folks who dropped out of the game after being decimated while defending the same group of AOO bandits. Wouldn't you say? Anyone who doubts that we're the good guys should ask around a little... And, of course, we have no allies, but plenty of friends!

> Woof, woof. Woof, woof. Hey Dogmatix, aren't you getting tired > of chasing the AOO all over southwestern Provinia? Nice doggie.

We had great fun chasing the AOO while it lasted. Sadly, with the capture or death of Viliz, Trogenius, Riar and 600 more AOO troops last turn we've run out of AOO to chase out here. You want us to head east or will you be delivering more fun out west, guys? BTW we've contacted the owners of the six nobles that were being held prisoner by Viliz and will be doing all we can to ensure their speedy return to the safety of their factions.

> We will take The Indomitable Gauls as an example, & tan your > snot-nosed hides.

We love fan mail! Let us know if you want to join the Junior Dogmatix Club and fight tyranny wherever it rears its ugly head. All inquiries will be held in the strictest confidence!

Can't enter my own ship?!? Arrr, there's nothing that will make a captain angrier than that! Just wait til I get on board, and uncover who's at the bottom of this mess.

Now then, who's that smiling down own me from the crows nest? Why, it isn't... it couldn't be... it's... it's...

(Farseeker's face turn bright red, and looks ready to explode from anger)

************************************ * Apollo The Bard's Balladry Board * ************************************

The Lady of Shalott by Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Heard a carol, mournful, holy Chanted loudly, chanted lowly, Till her blood was frozen slowly, And her eyes were darkened wholly, Turned to towered Camelot; For ere she reached upon the tide The first house by the waterside, Singing in her song she dies, The Lady of Shalott.

Under tower and balcony, By garden wall and gallery, A gleaming shape she floated by, Dead-pale between the houses high, Silent into Camelot. Out upon the wharfs they came, Knight and burgher, lord and dame, And round the prow they read her name, The Lady of Shalott.

Who is this? and what is here? And in the lightened palace near Died the sound of royal cheer; And they crossed themselves for fear, All the knights at Camelot: But Lancelot mused a little space; He said, `She has a lovely face; God in his mercy lend her grace, The Lady of Shalott.'

Prices too low? No, Lumber For Sale melted because his prices were too high (as he himself realized). I was in the Imperial City from around the time he started to the time he stopped & he barely sold anything. He bought a lot of things, esp. from me, because his buy prices were really high. Made me rich, but not him. Nobody is gonna' pay 180 gold for a warhorse or 14 gold for wood. There's money to be made in the IC, but you don't make a profit by ignoring demand elasticity: you can make more money selling a lot of stuff for a little, then selling a little stuff for a lot.

When Dixtheus talks, nobles listen.

I've arrived at last on Nallos. It's a barren mess of desert as far as the eye can see. You would expect it to be free of the press of humanity that prevailed in Imperial City, but it's crawling with noble's and their retinues. As near as I can tell they are trying to survive by selling sand to each other. I guess it's time to press on to more distant climes.

-- Sgt Major Ozalp [d0p]

Let it be known that the Sheriff of Pelenth, that most noble of nobles, is an honest and law abiding man. Not only has he provided help and support with the many questions I have had regarding the finer points of the game but he has also extended the banned of his protection over my troops and has provided materials for the construction of various buildings that I have requested with little or no recompense requested. He is a most upstanding fellows and I hereby bear full witness to his fairness and trustworthiness in all dealings I have had with him.

The Olympia Atlas is accepting contributions, and is available for download! Be the first to contribute information for unexplored lands (Faery).

In the tradition of Oleg's Map (tm), the Atlas is a compilation of geographical information useful for explorers, traders, and adventurers. Best of all, it's absolutely free!

To contribute to the Atlas, simply send turn excerpts (cut out all the incriminating parts) that contain the following information:

o) Mapping data (region & route info) o) City market reports o) City skills lists o) Inner locations

and send it to sx6@g1.pbm.com. We'll include it into the next version of the Atlas.

The Atlas is available by ftp from your nearest PBM ftp site (ftp.erg.sri.com in the USA, check the PBM FAQ for other sites), in the directory /pub/pbm/olympia, as atlas.X, where X is the turn of the last update.

The Atlas is also available on the PBMGames forum on CompuServe, in the fantasy games section, as atlas.oly.

Rumors

Dear Squire,

Are you stumped or gumped? This may be my last message to you for a while.

Q: What's the most horrible sound Dogmatix can make?

A: AOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Oh, man! So 53 factions have already completed castles? Damn! We are almost ready to start. Phooey, we feel like we're way behind. This world domination stuff is harder than it said in the matchbook when I sent away for the course...

I hope that the AOO isn't going to run away, now that I have come this far to play.

All of Nallos is claimed. Trespassers are warned their presence is potential grounds for severely prejudicial treatment. Information *may* be available from [ev8v].

Calliope speaks about herself: There's a barrel-organ carolling across a golden street, In the city as the sun sinks low... And the music's not immortal but the world has made it sweet, And fulfilled it with the sunset's glow...

Woof, woof. Pant, pant. Nice doggies never get tired of chasing intellectually challenged AOO all over southwestern Provinia.

Even more fun than walkies! Wag, wag.

Joining the AOO is easy. Just start killing off smaller factions at random. Oh, yes, and boast about it in the Times. You'll be welcomed as a brother.

Clifford's City Market Database: 107 city market reports and growing Send in a city market report not yet in the database and you will receive a report each week on the commodity of your choice. For further info, write to w4t@g1.pbm.com.

Flying horses can fly for 15 days over water.

Trade can be very profitable. If you don't have good relations with the faction controlling your destination and/or have a large force with you when you make that big sale, you probably won't be the one who profits.

Despite posts in the TIMES to the contrary, most of the landmasses to the east & north of Provinia ARE in fact being settled and claimed. New factions are therefore encouraged to explore to the west and south instead - A Public Service Message from the Greater Camaris "Let's Do You for Lunch" Committee.

* Market Survey: I am interested in the further profits of bounty hunting. Serious reward offers considered. Satisfactory payment procedures required. Please submit "serious offers". Killing off the AOO Castle Boss "Marat" for only 1000 gold is not serious. An OLD Book that teaches a magic skill, some Mithril, and some gold is getting warm. Easier targets will command a smaller fee. I will contact you directly if I am willing to pursue your target. I am currently on an assignment for around another 4 turns. * Low Profile Bounty Hunters

How much longer shall the inhabitants of this realm suffer under the oppressive thumb of the AOO? Surely if we band together we can take them! United we are strong, divided we are weak. Every turn we work to make them more powerful, when shall we work for ourselves and reap the benefits?

verse 6: The Mindsword spun in the dawn's gray light And men and demons knelt down before. The Mindsword flashed in the midday bright Gods joined the dance, and the march to war. It spun in the twilight dim as well And gods and men marched off to hell. Fred Saberhagen The Complete Book of Swords

On our explorations, we have adopted a kitten. Some of the sailors are beginning to think that this may have been a mistake. The little ball of energy is distracting, but overall we think she is too cute to get rid of.

Tower for sale, handy for Imperial City, contact jeremy@insignia.co.uk for details.

Wow, how about that, four islands in one place! Can anyone beat that (apart from the AOO, of course!)?

Hey Pel! See Ya Soon!

Too weak to attack the AOO directly. Harvest Opium and sell it in their cities. Watch their income plunge! Perhaps their troops will desert them!

Bill: Hey, look here Ted, I found an ancient book. Ted: Gnarly, dude, what's the book about? Bill: Let's see, the title is Oleg's Art of War. Ted: Cool, with this book we can rule the world!!! Bill: Hey what does this fine print about "no implied warrantee regarding merchantability or fitness to a purpose" mean? Ted: C'mon, that's lawyer talk for, uh, "you dudes will rule after you read this book." Bill: Cool!

I've been trying to join the AOO for a long time, but I don't know where to apply.

Miyuki: I see a strange and debilitating disease in your future the likes of which has never been seen in Olympia before. Your wanton sexuality is a threat to the morals of our fine society and you must be stopped before you corrupt our youth. Killing, plundering and selling opium are a part of our traditions but sex for anything other than procreation is evil. Thou shalt not have fun!!! Fellow Olympians, I beseech you - say no to condoms; say no to Miyuki - only abstinence can save you. - A Young Republican (with blisters on his hand)

Continued exploration of East Camaris yielded no new monsters this turn. Deathwood Forest, which covers a large part of the continent seems to live up to its name, with no life.
