Hmm, the right way to summarize combat might be simply to do just that: for
each type of attacker and each type of defender, report the number of blows
and number of hits for that combination over the course of the battle. The
sequence of actions would be lost, but the important events are already
mentioned in the log, so this summary would fill in most of the rest of the
picture, and the number of lines is reasonably finite, depending only on
the number of different types of troops on each side, not the quantity.
