Fame & Glory

One idea which I had was to tie the fame/glory rating into character "levels."
Characters would start out at level 1. After attaining a bunch of fame,
they would be raised a level.

A character's level would indicate how many skill families the character
could know. A level one character could study one parent skill. Later,
after attaining lots of fame, he would progress to level 2, and could pick
up a second skill family.

Of course, some of the current skills might need to be moved about. No
one would study Farming, for instance, in this system, since it can only
do one pretty mundane thing. The skill families would have to have
abilities which were balanced.

What this would do:

Older characters that had done lots of things would know more
Characters would have to do stuff to advance
Players would be more likely to specialize than to try to
learn all of the skills
