It would be a very simple change.

The idea is to make tough monsters. To eliminate the value of huge
mobs against small troops, we implement srt's 4:1 rule.

Or "one side may only make six attacks in a row before the other
side is given a chance".

This shifts the balance towards the tougher troops and against
"Oleg's horde of beggars" strategy. (I believe that's what Steve
Chapin called it. :-)

I actually like the 4:1 rule, although I'm fickle when it comes to
these things. 4:1 could never be done in g1, however. I could add
speed by making most everyone have the same speed value, except my
Really Tough Dragon.
