DescriptionWorlds' War (hereafter WW) is a game of economic and military conflict set around the turn of the 20th century. The world it takes place in is similar to to our own, but with a slight twist: in the WW game world, the South won the American civil war, not the north. In this altered universe, tailor-made for war gaming, players take control of one of the 9 great powers (Britain, the Union, Germany, France, Russia, Austria, Italy, Japan, and the Confederacy) and attempt to achieve their national goals and acquire world supremacy. This game differs from many other war games insofar as players exercise almost total control over their economy, which centers around the sale of excess commodities that a nation produces, and the purchase of commodities that a nation needs. Players are free to spend the excess money on all sorts of purchases, including military expansion, economic investments, railroads and military technology research. Needless to say, this game stresses playability and flexibility over strict realism; those who are interested in a game that re-enacts world history in a hyper-realistic manner will be disappointed. Those, however, who welcome the opportunity to manipulate a complex yet manageable economic system for their own national benefit will be rewarded. Although the game does have a military component, a nation's success at war is strongly dependent on how well each player prepares for war by sensible development of national resources.
