ACW Western Theater is an operational-level game set in the Western Theater during the Civil war. Each player commands large military department for either the Union or the Confederacy, and is responsible for defending (or capturing) key cities in those departments, as well as defeating the opposing army.

Each city is worth a certain amount of points. Battles are worth a certain amount of points, if won, depending on total casualties. The team with the highest score by November, 1863 (or November, 1864, if players agree to extend the game length) wins.

Updates are issued every 4 - 5 days in the form of an update sheet listing locations of forces, results of orders given, and the general situation. Generally, orders must be sent in within 3 - 4 days of receipt of the update. When armies are engaged in large tactical battles, orders are generally due within 24 to 48 hours.

Each turn takes about 2 weeks of game time. Presently, the winter quarter of 1861 - 1862 has ended, and 1862 campaigning season has begun.

At present, there is a need for one (1) Union player to command the Department of the West, which is responsible for Union forces in Missouri and the Mississippi River Valley. If interested, please contact the GM at
