DescriptionACW Virginia is an operational/stragetic-level wargame for the American Civil War, covering operations in Virginia from July 1861 (just after the First Battle of Bull Run) to July, 1863 (with a possible extension to November 1864 if favored by the players). There are two players, one commanding all Union forces, the other commanding all Confederate forces. The player who has accrued the greatest number of points at the end of the last turn, wins. Players will need to train their units, keep them supplied, reorganize their command structures when necessary, and provide overall strategic direction. Battles may be directed at the tactical level, but the degree to which the players may regulate each battle is dependent on the total number of forces involved; in other words, there won't be a lengthy set of turns in order to decide the outcome of a small engagement between say 3,000 men on either side. In the above case, each player might be allowed one general order, and then the moderator will decide the outcome based on the order plus other variables. Larger battles will, naturally, allow more direction. Both strategic and tactical maps will be provided as necessary. Points can be accrued through either capture of important cities (Richmond, Norfolk, Petersburg, etc., for the Union; Washington, Baltimore, etc., for the Confederacy) or through victory in battle. Currently, there is a need for a Confederate player. Again, the Confederate player will be responsible for directing all units within the Virginia Theater; he will not have the benefit of another human subordinate or teammate.
