Description

1483 Online is a massive multi player turn based online strategy game. In 1483 players assume control of 1 of 28 to 95 player nations (depending on game version) and attempt to expand their empires through the use of diplomacy and strategic warfare. 1483 is free to download and free to play, commercially drive by advertising support.

Born out of the explosive growth in popularity for the 1483 Online, human moderated PBEM, 1483 Online is the first game driven by the new Empires of History MMO strateg game engine. Back in 1999, the Europe edition of 1483 Online was first launched as a human moderated play by e-mail game. Within a year it had grown to over 1500 active players. Within two years it had fallen apart. The massive size of the game and intense demands on human moderators to receive turns from so many players and update the graphical maps proved too much and despite much enthusiasm, the number of available moderators dropped far below the number needed to keep the games running for everyone. It was quickly apparent that a computer program would be required to do the moderation for such a large number of players.

Its been 7 years since that time, but after many false starts, 1483 Online is now running with complete computerized moderation. But player to player e-mail through the Empires of History mail system for diplomacy was kept, allowing for the same game play feel as the old PBEM. Only now there is a computer program that shows the map and allows drag and drop movement of the units and other aspects of the game turns.

If you need the most basic explanation of what 1483 Online is like. Think Diplomacy meets Axis & Allies, set in a medieval historical setting.

Its free to download the game application and free to sign up and play. Play in up to 7 ongoing games at one time on a basic account. Current available are the 28 player Europe 1483 Online and the 29 player 1430Ad game variant.
