Description

A deep simulation of american football. Created by two brits now in their 40's, ran by mail for 9 years from 1984 to 1992 before closing down for a period and then relaunching in 2004 on the web. A committed head coach community with very few coaches retiring at any time. Expansions are limited and waiting lists are usually long. Each year 2 seasons are run, culminating in a draft - one online and one live-draft that is held as a convention face to face.

A coach manages his team, and the results are shown play by play as well as in summary. No software is required, all information is managed via the web.

There are currently 6 leagues, plus a College League and a JumpStart training league for new players who want to try the game out.

There is a very active yahoo group (search for Gridiron) and a very passionate head coaching fraternity. This feels more like a club than a game. Winners of Superbowls are provided engraved golden rings and are revered in the League.

You have to understand the basics of American Football to play, otherwise veteran coaches will always help new players.

In 2 and a half years of play the game has never missed a deadline. Ever.

It covers its costs by charging £15 per season - which is 6 months.

Its community of players regard it as the best simulation available. And many have played a number of them.
