Description

Valhalla is a 16 player computer moderated fantasy/sci-fi PBM wargame.

Each player controls a tribe, which may consist of several different unit types, there are 14 of which, ranging from mountaineers to jungle troops and from submarines to ornithopters.

The planetary surface is divided up into 256 regions, there are 14 different types of terrain. Most unit types have favoured terrains, their fighting ability being affected by such. For example, camel cavalry prefer desert terrain.

Computer control means that the orders need only be short and succinct. There are 7 different order types covering the usual - movement, recruitment and the making/breaking of alliances as well as the more unusual experiment, change wind direction and create fog. Spying of enemy positions is carried out automatically by certain unit types, the results of which are shown via maps and tables.

Victory is achieved through a combination of conquering land and making alliances. A player without the benefit of alliances needs to capture approx 80% of the planetary surface, including land and sea. Each player starts with just nine locations.

The media used is paper, however turns may be submitted by email (details on request).

Drop-out positions are computer controlled, and become very aggressive, especially to the lead player(s).

Startup and first two turns cost just one pound sterling, further turns cost just one pound. The rulebook may be viewed on site, paper versions are available if required, for a fee.

Geographically only the UK postal region is served.
