It may only be 200 yards straight line distance from the
barn to the tent, but it is a world away in terms of how
the barn functions on the site. The barn, no matter
how you slice it, is the social nexus of Cooper's Lake
Campground, and Pennsic. I've always felt and still
feel that social dance at Pennsic is most appropriate
at that nexus.

Thanks for the posting, you made me think hard about the points you made.
(I quoted only what seemed to be the crux of the matter ...) I think you're
right to be concerned, but I also think that the Dance Tent exists as much
because dance
has mostly been pushed out of the barn, as it does to house the floor - and
I don't think we have the clout to push back. It isn't just courts, the
barn also gets used for A&S exhibitions, emergency storm shelter, etc. And
being in the social nexus isn't always a plus, I do have vivid memories of
trying to teach a dance class in the barn while people were running power
tools in there.

I think you're correct about the barn being the traditional social nexus
(and tradition for me goes back to Pennsic 8), but I believe that in the
past few years, another social nexus has developed at the Food Court. I
think the Dance Tent and Performance Tent could develop into a sub-nexus of
the Food Court - maybe encouraging that could ensure us a reliable influx
(of people not looking for a place to plug in power tools:).
