pennsicdance: Floor

Just a brief note from a feverish, sore-throated, and tired "Floor
Fuhrer," as Domenico likes to say...

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the floor this year, from people
who cleaned screwheads to those who stayed late Tuesday night to get
things ready for rapid assembly, from those who prepped sixteen new
sections and painted new parquet designs to those who helped get more
drills for disassembly. Too many to thank, but it's all greatly
appreciated. :)

Some good things:

-Bigger tent meant more space and a much bigger (40%) floor!
-Just under budget -- if you include the $100 increase the autocrat
was nice enough to extend us
-Munchies for the assembly crew provided by Gregory (grazie!)
-Relatively fast main assembly (4 hours!)
-Pictures taken during assembly to show set-up and lots of notes
compiled (yay for Gwommy and his notebook computer!), to help continue an
"Owner's Manual" of sorts, including an inventory of our stuff
-Sooooo nice to pull things out of a trailer that was there from the
start!
-More dancing was done on the floor, as some of the first week (smaller)
general evening dance was moved there from the barn (happy knees!)
-There are two people who have shown an interest in maybe being 'floor
fuhrer' next year. :)

Some bad things:

-Not enough money to do anything with the band shell -- maybe next year?
-Home Despot gave me the wrong paint, so the new sections aren't the same
finish as the old
-New parquet designs didn't stick well and scuffed easily
-Not enough drills at the start of disassembly! Five just isn't enough to
get things going quickly
-Forgot to shim the floor as it was constructed, plus a few other small
construction errors (but this is how we learn...)
-Complaints and unhappiness about moving some of the general evening
dancing to there from the barn (one person of this opinion felt that maybe
officially scheduling this sort of thing from the start -- part of the
week in the barn, part of the week in the tent -- might be an effective
compromise)

And, um, I can't remember anything else so I'm taking some aspirin and
going to bed. Again, thank you thank you thank you! Here's hoping
everyone gets home okay and doesn't find much damage caused by the
blackout if they're from such areas.
