I'd be *very* appreciative if I could get a few pieces done with the play
speed changing at will. There's a 15th c. Italian exercise where the
musicians change tempo (speed up or slow down the beats per minute) to try
and draw the dancers off tempo. It's sort of like how SCA Maltese/Turkish
Branle is done. Although this is meant for Italian 15th c. balli, it works
for any dance tune (thanks to Danielle for pointing this out to me!)
This way if I'm teaching in groups which don't have many live musicians, I
can point them to a recording where the tempo changes.
Now, there might be a way to do this with musical editing software and some
of the freely available MIDI's of dance tunes. If so, I'd very much
appreciate someone taking an evening to show me the basics!
As for tunes that I can't get ahold of easily, I think il Piantone and
Bella Gioioso come to mind. And maybe a slower version of Gracca Amoroso
for teaching.
Thanks again, -Lyev
