I think that Catalana does have a point, that attendance would drop, but I am not sure that would be a bad thing.  really, the number of people attending far outdoes the space available, especially given the accoustics of the situation (unless Wolgemut plays, then accoustical physics cease to apply).
    One of the other advantages to having the Ball at teh end of war is that there is much more opportunity for people to take ball preparation classes.  When I poled the dancers who participated last year, the general consensus was that a later ball would be better (and more time for ball prep especially...Lots of people come from groups where dancing is not an option)...
    But, all things to consider....
