Piggy backing on what Adele has written I would like to point out the
following things about exactly WHAT Greg HAS done for Pennsic and SCA-wide
dance.
Regarding Pennsic Dance:
1.) He was the one who contacted Wolgemut about playing a set at the Ball.
Great idea, non?
2.) He was the one who got the classes organized and scheduled so that we
could all have our classes in the dance tent, on the floor of our dreams.
3.) He tried getting the Pennsic Pile, updated, done in time for Pennsic,
but the people who volunteered had an acute case of Life, and did not let him
know it until it was too late. As a result, he ended up assembling the
Pennsic Pile alone, at War, using a conventional hole punch. I believe he
also made large quantities of photo-copies at his own expense because the
pennsic copier was broken.
4.) He is the one who has really pushed the pre-1652 dance thing both at
Pennsic and abroad. Is it not nice to be able to get in all the Renaissance
dance that you desire?
What he has done for Renaissance dance SCA-wide:
1.) He has published and maintained a comprehensive website, and kept it up
to date with the latest and greatest in dance-related web sources. Through
this website, people can access everything from primary source facsimiles to
freely-copiable music files for a LOT of dances.
2.) He personally started the crusade in Atlantia to get Renaissance dance a
position of respectability and frequency at events, ultimately starting a
renaissance dance academie that spans kingdom borders.
Yes, Greg messed up this year in his job as Leader, and yes, he owes the
community an explanation and/or apology. Yes, even I was pretty frustrated
with him at various points of the War. Yes, I know that he has definitely
said and done rude and tactless things to people; I have seen them (but never
myself been on the brunt end, I must tell you). But let us not forget what
he DID do and has done, and please let us keep this conversation as
constructive and pertinent as possible---namely discussing, in the coolest
manner possible the pros and cons of what happened this year.
