pennsicdance: May I borrow a boombox?

which begs the question:
should a "dance community" boombox be aquired?

I' was talking about things to help improve the dance tent, and one of
those things was to build a secure location for a boombox to
permanently live there

Perhaps more generally, and simply, would be to aquire seperate
powered speakers, and a small mixer/input device which accepts input
from the playback device.

Not to say that we [sh|c]ould/n't also aquire a CD or cassette player...
having seperate speaker and playback systems allows for expandability
(mp3 player... ipod, voice, live musician amplification, etc) and
replacement of components as they wear out, rather than having one
piece failing making the whole non functional.

We'd need to get weatherproof speakers, a small speaker driver with
inputs (amp/mixer), and a few playback devices... cassette and CD
players.

Then, of course, a weatherproof enclosure in which to store the stuff.

Of couse, nothing beats live musicians... bring on the loud band!

Speaking of which... has anyone solicited them to (please) come play
for us at least for a couple songs some night? (yes, it's open season
on musicians... i mean open playing, but an invite doesn't
hurt... unless they're really bad.. then it'll hurt our ears... but i
don't think we want to go there.. ;)

thoughts?
