I find the best time for these is in the before-the-dancing slot. Obvioulsy
this doens't work once court season opens, but up until the night before the
ball is good.  A couple of years ago we got into doing this and it worked 
well. 

Another great time for it is in a class slot. Then people can get a much clearer
idea of what is going to be done, and not show up if it is outside their idea of
period or enjoyable.

I'm personally all for new choreographies, and would appreciate seeing them
officially scheduled, either in a class, or in an evening slot, with the
choreographer and dances/types of dance mentioned.
