pennsicdance: OOP Dance

I hate to bring up a sore subject, but we need to discuss our approach
toward Out of Period dance in evenings at the Barn. I was forcibly
reminded this year (thanks, I think, to all who did the forcing :)) that
there are a group of dancemasters (as well as dancers) who really enjoy
OOP dance and consider it appropriate to the SCA. More importantly,
they feel that their desires and concerns have not been properly heeded
by the dance community.

Last year, we more or less followed the rule we've been following for a
couple of years: OOP dance is allowed after midnight, by request only.
However, I heard resistance on both sides. Some people felt that we
were doing too much OOP dance, while others felt that their desire to do
OOP dance was not being addressed.

I think that we need to agree to be very sensitive to what other people
have to say in this discussion. In fact, I suggest that for the next
few days we just listen. I think we need to hear a variety of opinion
before we start tearing each other to shreds.:-) So, I ask people to
not respond to individual postings, but just to write about what they
think. We are never going to settle this debate, but we do eventually
have to settle on a compromise that will work next year at dance.
