figure 2 might be an option, although it uses just a bit more wood.

ummmm.. if you could get the face of plywood to shear like that, i'd
be impressed.. ;) The "anchors" are the screws attaching the top to the
frame. and would be all around the perimeter (perhaps every 16-20 inches)
the assumption *I* was going under was that the built frame would sit
on the concrete. Perhaps i'm missing something here. Admittedly, not
having the floor float makes each framing member transmit directly to
the ground/concrete and also creates more surface area to be affected
by bumps. hmmm...perhaps small risers (say a 9" 4x4 bolted to the corners
and perhaps in the middle of the edge) are a good idea.

2x4s *are* smaller cheaper lumber... ;)

I might look at the cost... but there will be a fairly big increase of
labor. can't cut aluminum with a circ saw (well perhaps with a metal
cutting blade, but then it wouldn't cut wood... ;)
If we are talking about higher risers i'd want a corner to corner
brace of some sort:

perhaps tension wire if the distance at the bottom were fixed.
