Occasionally a performance to the whole hall makes sense, and a few performers have voices capable of doing it, but I prefer doing incidental music; that way, anyone who doesn't want to listen is probably not inconvenienced. I'm not enough of a mind reader to figure out what people are thinking, and no one who paid good money to eat at an event should be kept from their food. As for the person who finds that stories aren't welcome at their local bardic circles: hold your own. Invite the people who enjoy hearing your stories. End of problem. It isn't necessarily an easy solution, but it is a positive one.
