Rokeclif and Barrow-hame
 by Brigid Kavanagh
Shire of Rokeclif

Deep within the forest glen,
Two villages dying, that once were friends.
Now they play a bitter game
Rokeclif and Barrow-hame

Then one day a stranger showed.
Warned them of disaster that was foretold.
Both villages were to lose their name.
Rokeclif and Barrow-hame.

In fear the two forgot their fight.
Preparing for death, they began that night,
To lay in plans to survive the flames,
Rokeclif and Barrow-hame.

Many years before them flew,
The war now silenced, the villages grew.
Living in peace became their fame,
Rokeclif and Barrow-hame.

Then the stranger returned one night.
They shouted at him, angry in their fright.
For they thought he had played a cruel game,
Rokeclif and Barrow-hame.

"Had you continued your silly war"
"Your fate would be sealed, I can say no more,"
"Be at peace, things are not the same."
"Rokeclif and Barrow-hame."

They looked in wonder, and in delight.
For truly was gone that terrible fight.
In friendship they now lived again.
Rokeclif and Barrow-hame.
