There are certainly period tunes with a range of a
sixth or less--the clasic minnesang "Under der linden"
is the first that comes to mind (range of a fourth).
As for actual Anglo-Saxon music, that's a bit out of
my period. I'd be surprised if much survived, though
I suppose St. Godric's hymns would qualify. I can't
remember if any of them could be played on six
strings. I'll lookup a few things when I get home
tonight.
