You could also do part of an early music theory class, especially using
Margo Schulter's articles.  They're excellent even though she doesn't cite
specific examples.

Yes. It's a great resource. In addition for searching for tune titles
to get CDs with the tune, there's also an introduction to different
musical styles by era, with CD recommendations. You could do an Early
Music Appreciation class straight out of those notes.
