That's interesting.  It's a required course here at Metropolitan State
College of Denver:  Diction for Singers, including learning the IPA
(International Phonetic Alphabet).  We covered basic pronunciation of Latin,
French, German, Italian and Spanish as well as English.  A similar course
may be available at other academic institutions.
