If you can locate someone involved in music education,
they have access to special sources.
Most would agree-better to get a decent plastic
recorder than a cheap wooden one.  You could get a
rather good plastic soprano or even an alto (less
shrieky than a soprano size) for the $30 you
mentioned.  You might contact your local American
Recorder Society branch also for help or they might
even have a program to assist in such an endeavor.
