It sounds like the "Cruel Mother" that you mentioned, is what I am looking 
for.  "She lean'd her back against a thorn,
The sun shines fair on Carlisle wa':
And there she has her young babe born
And the lyon shall be lord of a'."   - is the beginning.  It does seem to be 
about a woman killing her baby.  I'm sorry if I sound vague, but this 
recording is of such poor quality.  It's an Mp3 but is sounds like it was 
made from a record that was not in good condition.  It sounds like such an 
interesting piece though.  Thank you for the helpful responses.
