Hmm, looks like none of the early German experts are around for this one,
so I will have a stab at the 2 verses which could be suspect - my middle
high german is a little rusty so you'll just get gist translations for now!
>6 Do (e)r den tievel do geschande,
> daz nie keiser baz gestreit
> do fuor er her wider ze lande:
> do huob sich der juden leit,
> daz er herre ir huote brach,
> und man in sit lebendic sach,
> den ir hant sluoc unde stach.
something about the jews having been led here and given shelter, and
having seen jesus alive and then slain him.
>9 Kristen, juden unde heiden
> jehent daz diz ir erbe si.
> got sol uns ze rehte bescheiden
> durch die sine namen dri.
> Al diu welt diu stritet her:
> wir sin an der rehten ger,
> reht ist daz er uns gewer.
"Christians, jews and heathens, let this be your legacy, god will judge us
by his three holy names, all the world (something about arguing), we will
have justice, justice is what he gives us." ALthough it could also be a
play on words referring to being seated on God's right hand, "recht" can
apply for both
On the whole its just the retelling of part of the passion,, it begins with
the author saying he is in the land where once God walked in human form,
and goes on from there, what wonders happened, a virgin giving birth etc etc
I don't think its necessarily anti-Semitic in the true sense, just has the
"jews killed jesus" mention which is found in the Bible anyway... you could
omit the last verse as verse 8 talks about helping widows and children and
giving the poor power, and would be a good enough ending.
I can translate the whole song for understanding purposes if required, just
ask :)
