minstrel: When was it writ?

Great observations, by the way!
I'm just coming back from Disneyworld (yay!) and catching up on my mail.  I 
believe there is a related but different song in the Beggar's Opera (abt 
1720).  My gut feeling is that Ashgrove dates from about 1780-1800.  I have 
books at home which will tell...I'll post later.
