DIGITAL IMAGE ARCHIVE OF MEDIEVAL MUSIC
Forwarded from the musicology list:
We are pleased to announce that colour images of manuscripts in the
following libraries are now available through the Digital Image Archive of
Medieval Music website (http://www.diamm.ac.uk). The DIAMM project, which
is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Board in the United Kingdom,
is a new resource for scholars which aims to digitize, archive and make
available images of British manuscripts of medieval polyphonic music, and
to develop techniques of digital image enhancement, or 'virtual
restoration', to retrieve lost data or improve the legibility of materials
that cannot at present be read. Further groups of images, amounting to the
entire corpus of fragmentary English manuscripts of pre-Reformation
polyphony, totalling c.2300 pages from over 85 separate repositories, will
be made available over the coming months.
We warmly invite colleagues to explore these materials - study of which
has until now been hampered by wide geographic spread - and to make use of
them in their research and teaching. Access is free of charge and
passwords allowing access to the main images (96 dpi PDF files) will be
made available on return of the signed licence agreement (one per user;
form available at http://www.diamm.ac.uk/AccessAgreement.pdf) to Dr Julia
Craig-McFeely at Department of Music, Royal Holloway University of London,
Egham TW20 0EX, UK. Full details appear on the project website.
