minstrel: period christmas music

Just a little note (since most of what I know is definitely period has
been listed already)...

Make sure that the music you use for "Veni, Veni, Emmanuel" ("O Come, O
Come, Emmanuel") sounds a lot like plainsong chant...if it does, you've
got the right music. There is also a Victorian version of the song out
there (Personally, I don't even like it as generic music).

Oh, and I don't know how many hymnals out there do it, but the old
(green) Presbyterian Hymnal (and maybe the new one?) lists author,
translater, arranger, year the lyrics were written and year the music
was written (range given if not known often), and name of the tune that
was used (ie "Old One Hundred"). Often the music can be swapped around
with different lyrics easily. Handy tool for finding a bit more x-mas
music, or inspiration/music for a new song.
