I *think* this story is _Aucassin and Nicolette_ which
is also interesting to performers for the power of
song and performance demonstrated in the story (did a
paper on it ;)  But Nicolette disguises herself as a
*male* joglar in my translation.

If it's a different tale, could you pass on some
information on where to find it?  I'd love to read it!
