minstrel: Cabiria

Peace be with you, good gents and gifted minstrels.

My husband and I are very fond of the movies. There is an art theater here
in Rio that was screening Fellini's "Cabiria". Needless to say, we loved
it. What a brilliant piece of movie making. After the screening, we talked
a lot about its religious aspects, the storytelling, etc., and my husband
asked: "She says her name is really Maria. So, Cabiria is her "nom de
guerre". Where did she find it? Cabiria?" Then, I had one of my memory
flashes. I remembered reading somewhere that there was a famous Roman
courtesan by that name, but nothing more. By any chance, can someone tell
me a bit more about it? I'd really appreciate it. In friendship,

Glaura Branca Pereyra de Santa Maria, from Arbores Scintillantes (I can't
get enough of writing it down.)

The honor is to serve.
