This is actually not such a long shot.  As I understand, the SCA chapters in 
Germany and Japan got started this way (i.e., sprung up around military 
bases.)  Dunno.....just seems to be a strong connection between servicemen, 
and existing/potential SCAdians.  :D :D :D :D
