minstrel: A spring carol

As I promised/threatened last week, this is the Spring Carol which 
I performed at West Kingdom Beltaine Coronation. It was done in honor
of then-Queen Talitha, who's device features a bordure charged with 
iris.  If you want a midi of the tune (New Oxford Book of Carols #31)
write to me privately and I will attach it for you, but I'm not going 
to do that to the list.

The Flag of Spring

Mistress Wander Riordan and in honor of Queen Talitha.

   Pur-ple i-ris on the green, the flag of Spring
   Pur-ple i-ris on the green, the flag of Spring for-ev-er
 
Spring hath donned her gar-ment green
And with flow-ers trimmed the same
Of them all there is a Queen, the flag of Spring
Of them all there is a Queen, the flag of Spring for-ev-er.

   Pur-ple i-ris on the green, the flag of Spring
   Pur-ple i-ris on the green, the flag of Spring for-ev-er
 
Horn-ed buck doth ling-er nigh
Mead-ow full of flow-ers white
Doe doth flirt her tail on high, the flag of Spring
Doe doth flirt her tail on high, the flag of Spring for-ev-er

   Pur-ple i-ris on the green, the flag of Spring
   Pur-ple i-ris on the green, the flag of Spring for-ev-er

But-ter-cups and lil-ies, too
Pop-pies gold and lup-ines blue,
Trees put forth their bright-est hues, the flags of Spring,
Trees put forth their bright-est hues, the flags of Spring for-ev-er

   Pur-ple i-ris on the green, the flag of Spring
   Pur-ple i-ris on the green, the flag of Spring for-ev-er

Und-er oak the ir-is bold
Col-ors of the rain-bow show
Most in pur-ple lined with gold, the flag of Spring
