Not sure I would say it that way.  There is the single beat, the strum
beat, and the triplet.  Then there is a whole range of tonal variations.
Add in the rimshot ( which I don't :-) and I think it is way more than four.  

Perhaps you are thinking of dumbek?  Even there I think there is more range
than that, but someone more experienced with dumbek would have to answer that.
