Uh, yeah. Right...
Okay, The dissagreement here appears to be apples and oranges. I
would love to hear all period tales one evening. I would love to hear
only period tunes and see people recite period poetics.
However, if there are the new folks about who are dying to
perform. Well, yes. They will perform, even if it is only for me.
Mathrin has sat at my fire and seen what happens. I even let the drummers
and dancers work.
However, I also agree with Gregory. I know exactly how precious a
night of true period, or at least period form material is. I must admit,
it seems to be an aquired taste. A laurel I highly admire will not sit
through a ten min. section of Norse Poetics. Still it is a fine thing.
The only trouble I have is with the word "grating". Troubling
perhaps. Unsettling, surely. But grating? This indicates a sort of
severe disgust to me. As a teacher, both mundanely and in the Society, I
am sometimes "troubled" by the performances of the new kids on the circle.
("Suicide is Painless" between two very fine works by others. You know
Mathrin, you were there...) But my response was to send him a hearty,
"you had guts to perform...May I offer you some really good material?"
Oh, and I asked for dancers again...

"The knowlege that you freely share
You never really lose
For Mistress and Apprentice
Are just titles that we use
When wisdom passes from your hand
It travels back around again
And the pupil gives more knowlege back to you"
(The Mistress' Song, composed for Lucianna)
