"Rising of the Star" in the earliest publication I am aware of** was
credited to Balthazar of Endor; various individuals have contributed
additional verses over the years. I generally consider it a "battle" song.
Ansteorra's tear-jerker / best-known anthem has been for many years
"Farewell to Ansteorra". Tadgh Liath, noted grump, once offered a prize for
a contest to offer a replacement...
There also exists a highly moving piece to the tune of "Ballad of the Green
Berets" which naked memory attributes to Simonn of Amber. While the tune may
be over-used, the lyric did everything it needed / wanted to.
** _Songs of Ansteorra: Patriotic and Otherwise_, ed. by Melusine Whitcroft
the Petite. (_The_ essential songbook for an Ansteorran circa A.S. XIV.
Includes many important works by Sula von Pferdenthal, such as "The Eagle
Rides Over The Border", along with other poets & musicians I have not
personally seen or heard in many years.) Most entries from this work have
been transcribed into one or another of the electronic collections
available, such as Stephan the Juggler's or the (expanded) Black Book of
Locksley.
Kihe Blackeagle (the Dreamsinger Bard) s.k.a. Amr ibn Majid al-Bakri
al-Amra
currently residing in Barony of the Steppes, Kingdom of Ansteorra
