There is always a time for being serious as well as for having fun. When we
can combine the two, all the better. (Yes, I can have "fun" singing a dirge
or composing a satire as well as when I join in a singalong of "The
Scotsman".)

Well, at least a part of the time I would hope that solid ground is under my
feet. Helps with supporting from the diaphram and other performance
techniques.
The road or waves that take me to new friends or return me to old, familiar
towns are also nice to have beneath me.
Some would even say that *everything* except the gods themselves are beneath
the true bards, or no more than alongside.
Other times, I would hope for no more than a willing partner ... and even
then I've been known to take turns <wink, nudge, GRYN>
