Greetings, friend --
Here's the folklore of the day:
Roses: Since the days of ancient Greek myth, the white rose has been the
symbol of silence. Whenever a white rose was hung above the banquet table, no
secrets were ever to be repeated. During the Renaissance, the rose was a
favorite architectural motif and often was sculpted on ceilings of rooms where
diplomats gathered. The obvious implication was that matters discussed under
the rose ("sub rosa") were considered to be confidential. The symbol of the
rose was placed over confessionals in 1526.
Cheers,
