12 Days of Christmas

My only knowledge concerning this song is that it took the 3 wise men 12 
days to travel with their gifts, from where they were to where Jesus 
was.  Therefor, twelve days, and gifts. I'd still be glad to know when 
the song originated, and if there is any meaning behind the specific 
gifts chosen for each day.
