Since we're now carrying our own versions of a couple of early decks of
German playing cards http://historicgames.com/RPcards.html I was doing
some research and found an article I found interesting entitled "Playing
Cards and Popular Culture in Sixteenth-Century Nuremberg" which talks
about some of the symbolism behind the Peter Flotner and Jost Amman decks.
The article is available for free download if your local public library
gives you access to JSTOR, but just in case I took the liberty to repost
the PDF here: http://historicgames.com/pdf/german%20cards.pdf
