Hello,
There was a famous liu bo silk board found in an Eastern Zhou tomb, in
case you are interested. Is this the world's oldest cloth board? See,
for example,
http://history.chess.free.fr/liubo.htm
which seems to take account of the latest research coming out of China.
Best,
Peter Shotwell
