Interestingly, Murray (History of Board-Games) mentions another game
that is also named Gala. This one is more similar to the Tafl games.
Perhaps it strengthens the kinship between Gala(1) and Tafl. It could be
an intermediate form. It is played on a 7x7 board. The middle cell and the
middle cell of each edge-row are crosscut. It is played with ten black and
thirteen white men that move othogonally and capture by interception. The
play begins by dropping pieces, each player on his half of the board,
and black first enters a man on the central square. Murray says nothing
more about the rules.
