Quibble.
Doesn't matter what a certain SCA games researcher thinks, the farthest
back Shut the Box can be reliably dated is the 18th century.
(I've seen what I think was his primary source and it claims the game
was played by Norman sailors.  Some forget Normandy still exists and
is still populated by people called Normans.)
