Everyone has pretty much covered it. The game is "Shut the Box".
Milton Bradley produced a clone called "Snake Eyes" with a picture
of a snake under the numbers. It's in "Medieval Games". It's a
century post-period, but it's still played at SCA events.
Two corrections to what I've read. If you roll a 1 and 5, you can cover
the 1 and 5 or the 6. Period. The 2 and 4 is only allowed in children's
games locally. You want to cover the 7,8,9 as fast as possible. Once
they're gone you have the option of going to a single die. Take it!
