Ginger beer/ale has a long history. It's been popular since Greek and Roman
times, used in eastern & western recipes, and the contemporary nonalcoholic
soda pop called ginger ale. Today, I happened to make some honey candied
ginger from an old Chinese recipe translated from a 6th Century manual.
Ginger has many great properties both as a hot & flavorful spice and
stimulant to the appetite & digestive tract. The list of other medicinal
properties is long too.
What "period" beer are you referring to?
